Chip Kidd: Book One collects all of his book covers and designs for the first time, as well as hundreds of developmental sketches and concepts-annotated by Kidd and by many of the best-selling authors he's worked with over the years.
Chip Kidd is a pioneer in book cover art, but this novel marks his first attempt to write the words between his magnificent covers. It tells the story of one boy's discovery of graphic design in college and his talented and cruel professor.
This book began as a list Stefan Sagmiester made in his diary under the title Things I have learned in my life so far, which includes statements such as "Complaining is silly. Either act or forget" and "Trying to look good limits my life. With the support of Stefan's clients, his studio transformed these sentences into typographic works, from billboards in France to sign-toting inflatable monkeys on the streets of Scotland. The book consists of 15 unbound signatures in a laser-cut slipcase.
