AIGA Charlotte announces the start of the nominations for the 2008-2009/10 Board of Directors. We're looking for good people who feel that they are ready to give a little back to this design community. You may already have leadership experience, or you may just have a burning desire to do something more with your membership. Either way, we would love to have you participate in this years nominations process. To nominate yourself or someone else, please send an email to the Nominating Committee with the name of the individual, their email address and phone number. They will then be contacted by a Board representative and asked to participate in an informational session in April. At this session, the nominating committee will discuss the available positions and figure out the desires of each nominee to find the best fit for each person. AIGA Charlotte is proud to welcome the fifth biennial BOOM! design competition to the Queen City. AIGA Charlotte & AIGA Raleigh are partnering to recognize the creative thinking of Carolina designers. BOOM!, our biennial design competition, invites you to submit your most imaginative design solutions and celebrate the rewards of inspired thinking. Designers from North Carolina and South Carolina will have the opportunity to enter their best work, which will be judged by a nationally recognized panel of design professionals. Judging will take place in November 2008 followed by a “Dinner with the Judges” where the judging panel will present their work. An exhibition of the winning entries will be held in Charlotte on Saturday, April, 25, 2009. Please mark your calendar: All entries must be received by Friday, October 24, 2008. Three years ago, I was attending my first HOW Conference in Chicago. In the mist of wall to wall sessions, I found myself sitting in a conference hall listening to Sean Adams’ presentation. Although entering the session with no idea of who he was, I left the session completely inspired. I couldn’t stop thinking about all the different design theory played out in intricate charts and how strong of a speaker he was. Upon return to Charlotte, I attended my first board meeting as incoming Vice President a couple weeks later. To this day, I remember the animated conversation I had with our events team asking them if we could find a way to bring Sean Adams to Charlotte. Time past and then at the National Leadership Retreat last year, Sean Adams was introduced as the incoming National President.
