Love of Letters :: Moveable Type Open Truck
February 14, 2012 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM @ Chop Shop
It started with a dream, a dream of literally taking the joy of letterpress to people who had never experienced it. From that small seed, an idea sprung: The Moveable Type Truck, a touring letterpress mobile that provides letterpress workshops for designers, curious hobbyists, homeschool students, and everyone else Kyle Durrie can fit into her roving studio.
Using money funded by her Kickstarter campaign, Kyle converted an old Chevy step van into a working letterpress shop, complete with two presses and a ton of lead type. She left her Portland home in June of 2011 and has spreading the gospel of letterpress across the United States ever since.
Join us for an afternoon of printing demos, studio/truck tours, and tall tales about life on the road. Participants can also expect to get their hands dirty and make a print to take home with them.
This event is free and open to the public.
Need more Type Truck action? If you're interested in attending one of her workshops, she'll be putting on three here in Charlotte during our Letterpress Fest week. If you're more interested in taking a quick look at the truck and hearing about her infectious love for letterpress, come on out to hear her speak before our Design Unplugged Panel Discussion.
