BuzZ April :: To Specialize or Not Specialize
April 14, 2010 7:15 AM - 8:30 AM @ Amelie's French Bakery
conversations over coffee.
Most designers begin their careers working on any and all projects they can get their hands on: from logos to brochures; all the way to websites and PowerPoint presentations; and perhaps video gets thrown into the mix too. We enjoy being a Jane or Jack of All Trades because it allows us to help any client meet any need---we are problem solvers after all. But what if being a generalist hinders your professional growth? Why should the Janes and Jacks of All Trades consider specialization to improve their career? And will specialization really boost the fees you charge?
Join Jason Tselentis (designer, writer and educator at Winthrop University), as he helps designers decide if it's better to be an inch wide and a mile deep, or a mile wide and an inch deep when it comes to your profession.
