Adam Rouse, AIGA Member Since 2008
Account Executive, Belk Printing Technologies
How and why did you get involved with AIGA? Approximately how long have you been involved with the organization?
Fall of ’08. AIGA is the perfect organization to meet and befriend Charlotte’s design community. Graphic designers like to challenge and be challenged - creating those intriguing print projects that generate traffic for their clients. As an account executive with Belk Printing Technologies, I find the most joy in working closely with my clients to offer solutions and fresh ideas that can help to make their designs the best they can be. Certainly, repeat business, i.e. monthly and quarterly publications, are key for maintaining sales volumes, but it’s those unique, first run projects that make my career so enjoyable. Add to that, getting feedback that a new project or campaign was successful at generating the desired end result, well, that excites me!
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
Twenty-four years of marriage to the same girl and raising my children to see it.
What’s your secret talent (big or small, silly or serious)?
Musician. Soul, gospel, funk and jazz are my favorite styles. I have big fun playing saxophone and singing with my band mate friends of Summer Daze Band most weekends. From jazz standards to the latest pop tunes we cover it all.
If there is karaoke at the next office party, what song will you be singing?
Boom Boom Pow (Black Eyed Peas).
What would people be surprised to know about you? That a 46-year-old, gray-haired dude can sing Boom Boom Pow and actually sell it!
What is the best purchase you’ve ever made?
We moved into our Barclay Downs home in ‘93. There’s simply nowhere else in Charlotte we’d want to live. The back yard is our peaceful refuge complete with a shady patio, two cats and bountiful, luscious organic veggies and flowers.

I had the honor of working with Adam during Design Week earlier this year. His employer, Belk Printing Technologies was our sponsor for the week-long event. Adam was a joy to work with and his enthusiasm was contagious. He had wonderful ideas for future event promotion and has a genuine interest in designers and the work they do. Adam added a professional and positive dimension to the week, making my responsibilities with Partnership and absolute pleasure.

As a young designer just learning about the creative industry and especially about the printing process, Adam provided exceptional customer service when I approached him about printing my personal portfolio. I appreciated the time he took to listen to my needs and answer my questions. After an extensive printing tour of Belk Printing Technologies, I was convinced Adam not only loved his chosen field, but loved working with customers to create outstanding products and meaningful relationships. I would highly recommend him.

I have known Adam for 10+ years. Great printing, up-to-date technology, exceptional service and client stewardship are all givens with Adam and Belk Printing. But really, it comes down to the personal relationships - the feeling that you are not just a "gig" but a valuable asset to their organization. This begins with Adam and resonates through the entire group. He is always open and honest and has great suggestions regarding stock, coating, fulfillment, etc. I no longer work for the company that was benefiting from his services but we still stay in touch - Super nice guy and an astute professional.
