Kevin Brindley, AIGA Member Since 2010
Creative Director, Art Director & Wannabe Storm Chaser
Work By Kevin
What attracted you to the design profession? Did you have particular mentors or experiences that opened the door to the profession for you?
I was attracted to the design profession at a very early age. For as long as I can remember, I always spent large amounts of time as a kid drawing and painting. I was fortunate enough to attend a public school district that placed value on fine arts, so I was able to take several art classes and electives in elementary school all the way through high school. This helped to reinforce my passion about being creative, explore different aspects of the industry, and begin to formulate ideas of a career path prior to applying for college. I owe a great deal of gratitude to my parents for recognizing my passion for design, for providing endless opportunities to pursue that passion, and for supporting my decision to pursue design as a career path. Their support made a design career much easier for me to obtain, and they still provide their support each and every day.
How and why did you get involved with AIGA? Approximately how long have you been involved with the organization?
I have been a member of AIGA since early 2010, but it has been an organization that I wanted to join since we relocated to Charlotte. After becoming involved, learning about the chapter, meeting a lot of the other members and witnessing firsthand the dedication that the Charlotte AIGA chapter has for supporting and promoting the local creative community, I wish I would have joined earlier. I'm on a mission now to make up for lost time.
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
I have several proud accomplishments that I'd like to share. First, meeting and making a lasting connection with the wonderful person who became my wife. We have a very strong and supportive relationship, and often confide, advise, mentor and assist each other with our professional careers. Second, having our daughter. There is absolutely nothing more challenging and rewarding than being a parent, and I'm thankful for that everyday. Third, my passion and enthusiasm for graphic design, advertising and marketing has enabled me to explore numerous aspects of the industry. I have worked for small firms, large corporations, and even had the fortunate opportunity to build two successful companies (a Chicago design firm and a South Florida e-commerce company) from the ground up. I maintain a great sense of pride for being a successful business owner for 10 out of my 15 years of a career thus far.
What’s your secret talent (big or small, silly or serious)?
Most of the time when people think of graphic designers, art directors and other creative positions, they automatically associate those positions with only the act of creating the visuals. I am a firm believer that accurate input, research and strategy needs to be the sound foundation of creative development. All successful creative must also possess a targeted audience, medium and message. My job is to develop effective creative solutions based upon sound strategy that communicate effectively through proper mediums to the appropriate targeted audience. My communication abilities have given me extensive experience in performing strategic creative tasks, which have resulted in several very successful and award-winning campaigns over the years.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Meteorology - I'm a huge weather geek. I have always been fascinated by weather and how it can have tremendous impacts on daily events, activities, routines and lives. It amazes me how dramatic changes in weather can interrupt entire communities, regions and industries. Weather is the one thing that man hasn't been able to control and trying to forecast it's behavior and patterns to benefit man seems very exciting.

I've known and worked with Kevin Brindley for a few years now and I never even realized he's a graphic designer. It's not because I've never seen his work; I've seen lots of it. It's because Kevin's work is so much more than just graphic design. It's strategy combined with creativity and a dab of light-heartedness. C'mon, the guy designed a transfer truck trailer that unfolds to become a miniature city! This is a great interview of someone whose talents far exceed the labels of graphic designer, art director or even creative director. Good job, AIGA!

I've had the great opportunity to work with Kevin firsthand on two projects our firms were engaged in together. As someone who is routinely called in to provide extra knowledge, expertise, and services in creating interactive solutions it was completely refreshing to work with someone that understands that strategy extends further than just how something looks, but also how it works and performs. I agree with Andy's comment in that Kevin's expertise extends so much further than simply graphic design, which makes him a "killer combo" in that he can knows how to build the strategy that make the visuals that much more impactful, thus making the project an even greater success! Great job!

Great questions, great interview indeed - thanks AIGA Charlotte! As you know, it takes a great deal of time - research, pointed questions and dialog to gain insight into a client’s expectations and goals. Only then can a creative provide the best strategies and solutions for business development. I have enjoyed getting to know Kevin and through some lengthy conversations am convinced he is well equipped with not only design expertise but great knowledge of media channels and methodology to promote his clients’ business. Take a moment to review his work and I know you will agree.

Excellent choice for Member Spotlight in Kevin Brindley! Creative, honest, driven and easy to communicate with are a few of the reasons that it was such a great experience working with Kevin at INVSCO M&A in Chicago. Allowing the creative process to happen and then taking that energy into the marketing needs and advertising campaigns really sparked the success of those efforts. He is easy to work with as co-worker and client and, thus, really delivers what he promises and above expectations. again, excellent choice AIGA Charlotte!

Great interview and good choice for the AIGA Member Spotlight. I have known Kevin for about a year now and consider him a friend. He does excellent work and, unlike some truly creative types, he's has exceptional people skills. He's truly one of the good guys.

I've worked with Kevin over the years producing commercial photoshoots with Michael LoBiondo and all I can say is Kevin's the real deal. So down to earth and approachable, easy to work with and deeply talented.

Several months ago I got the opportunity to meet Kevin face-to-face through Charlotte's social media community and was immediately impressed with him, so I'm thrilled to see this great interview spotlighting his professional & personal accomplishments. I love the concept of featuring a local creative guy (or gal) each month.
