1. What is your Chapter’s most proud recent accomplishment?
AIGA is a volunteer organization driven by leaders who work to advance our profession. The success of our organization and the impact and resources we can offer are driven by our leadership. Who is our leadership? It is members who volunteer and dedicate their time to help build our community. Since those members choose to become leaders, they are bestowed upon as where it starts to make things happen and to act as role models. A position of leadership is a position of serving.
This is why AIGA Austin is most proud our new Board of Directors who selflessly work to improve our community and encourage membership participation and contributions.
2. Tell us about the best event your Chapter has put on this year?
Design Ranch is a singular bi-annual event that draws designers from around the country for an extended weekend of hands-on experimental workshops. Only 150 attendees are admitted to Design Ranch. Our chapter creates a small community that can interact with workshop leaders in small groups and enforces a network that may continue onward. We hope to see you at Design Ranch 2011.
3. Tell us about the most exciting upcoming event your Chapter has in the works?
The Texas Show is the first statewide competition we’re holding to demonstrate excellence in design from Texas. AIGA Houston and Dallas are joining us to create a show that will travel throughout the state. We’ll create an exhibit book of winners that will be available to all AIGA members and for sale to nonmembers. Wish us luck as we reveal this competition at our Annual Membership Party in December.
4. What would people be surprised to learn about your Chapter?
We’re the third coast for design excellence.
5. If you were to make a soundtrack to describe your Chapter, what are five songs that would appear on the soundtrack?
1. Johnny Cash, "Burning Ring of Fire"
2. Stevie Ray Vaughn, "Texas Flood"
3. Spoon, "Sister Jack"
4. Black Joe and the Honeybears, "Bitch I love you"
5. Asylum Street Spankers, "Beer Beer Beer"
