Membership Spotlight: Amy Quesinberry

Amy Quesinberry, AIGA member since 2005
Junior Graphic Designer, Illustrator, RSPA

1. Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get inspiration from observing and listening to the things around me. I gain it from music and studying the album art, exploring new places, looking through the shelves of Barnes & Noble, being outside and enjoying God's creation, running, and amateur photography -- just to name a few.

2. How and why did you get involved with AIGA? Approximately how long have you been involved with the organization?
Originally, I joined in 2005 when I was a student at Virginia Tech, but the closest chapter was several hours away in Richmond, VA so there wasn't really a good way to get involved. But I renewed my membership last fall as a student at The Art Institute of Charlotte hoping to be able to learn from and get to know other local designers. I have been able to connect with new people with similar interests as well as learn about tools and resources that they just don't teach you about in school.

3. What would people be surprised to know about you?
I may not seem like the most outgoing person to most people, but I LOVE trying and experiencing new things and meeting new people. One of my favorite atypical things I've done so far is skydiving.

4. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
I've received a lot of good advice over the years, but in regards to design (though these things can also apply to life) I recently had a professor give me a list of things that might be helpful to follow as I went out into the "real" world of design. The two on the list that she emphasized were 1. It's better to fail by going down in flames than by settling for mediocrity and 2. No matter how good it is, somebody won't like it. The first has become my initiative; the second, my reassurance.

5. What is your favorite food/book/movie (you pick one) and why?
One of my favorite movies would have to be The Shawshank Redemption. It is a great story of friendship. But more than that, I love the ending (which I won't give away for those of you who haven't seen it) in which the main character, Andy Dufresne, exemplifies a brilliant picture of hope.

Amy, "You Did What?? Don't you ever do that again!!" I've watch Amy from the day she was born. She was a such a sweet baby girl, she turned Tom-Boy, then blossomed into a beautiful young lady. Best wishes for a Blessed future, creating Designs that will "Rock" the Graphic Design World. Praying for God to watch over you and bless your life, love you, Auntie Barbara

I agree with Dunbar. She also owes me a rematch at chess.
