Have you ever been terrified and amazed at the same time? Imagine being in close proximity of a tornado snarling down on you, coming straight for you, and knowing that there is really nothing that can be done about it. Well, that tornado is the future of interactivity.Amazing and terrifying are probably the best two words to describe AIGA Charlotte’s Top 10 :: Interactive Media Tips and Trends workshop that took place November 20th.
For those of you who missed out, John Pietrafesa, Partner and Creative Director, and Tyler Hawes, Partner and Interactive Director, at the multi-disciplinary design studio, MODE gave a top ten workshop on Interactive Media tips and trends. This presentation took the pulse of some of the most cutting edge interactive technologies in use today, and some of the most exciting examples that have yet to be released to the public. This technological tornado is terrifying in its power, incredible ingenuity and ever-changing advancement but even more amazing for those very same reasons.
Influenced and informed by not only the work they’re doing, but also by technologies recently presented at the Sarasota International Design Summit. MODE’s presentation started with an awe-inspiring YouTube video about the evolution of the world and how it affects and inspires the evolution of interactive media. John and Tyler shared with us the difficulties of preparing a presentation on such an ever-evolving topic; in the amount of time that they put the presentation together, many of the examples were either replaced or removed. The subject matter covered throughout the evening spanned everything from web design basics, to evolving interfaces, social tagging, and even virtual reality. It stressed the importance of maintaining good relationships between developers and designers, and understanding the appropriate time to integrate cutting edge technology. The evening ended with a Q & A tackling tough questions such as where will technology go next and what are the boundaries of social responsibility when using the amazing new advances.
So the next time you’re in a field in Oklahoma, presented with a snarling beast of a tornado, run away from it, run as fast as you can, it will kill you. But if you want to be safely amazed and terrified check out the presentation here and send a big thanks to John and Tyler for putting together an amazing workshop.
As always check back here to see future awe-inspiring events.
