What attracted you to the design profession? Did you have particular mentors or experiences that opened the door to the profession for you?

When I was little my Grandma taught me to paint, draw and craft. She is really my reason for falling in love with the art world. When I got into high school I researched careers in art that I could make a living at and stumbled upon graphic design. I went to Meredith College knowing exactly what I wanted and came out with a real knowledge and passion for visual communication. One of my biggest mentors was a teacher I had at Meredith that really challenged me in how far I took my design and how well I executed it. She is still in my head to this day when I design.

Whats your proudest accomplishment?
A freelance project that I've been a part of for almost four years called Myself: Together Again. The project is about one woman's process as she went through breast reconstruction after a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. She had herself photographed throughout her reconstruction process so that other women could have an idea of what to expect. I had the privilege to create a small booklet that paired the process photos and her story together. The book is in over 79 cities worldwide and has seriously reduced the amount of anxiety women about to undergo surgery and their families feel. This project has been one of the most rewarding projects to be a part of.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Pastry Chef...one day I want to own my own bakery.

How and why did you get involved with AIGA? Approximately how long have you been involved with the organization?
I got involved with AIGA back in college and did it because I felt that being a part of a larger organization for design would keep me fresh and connected to the design world no matter where I am in my career. AIGA has been a great and easy way for me to network in new cities and I love that.

What would people be surprised to know about you?
I was born in Guatemala and have family there.

Miss Rosal has a great career ahead of her. I like the idea that she wants to be a chef. Her Grandma must have been a very special person. I know she like football too. Roll Tide!!!!
